Independence Day Celebration at the PGIA
Belize is a small and independent country of 8,867 square miles and approximately 311,000 people representing nine distinct ethnic groups. But, at least once a year all Belizeans forget individual ethnicity and acknowledge our similarity — simply as Belizeans. During the month of September, Belizeans of all ages come together in celebration of Belize's history and independence.
To include our visitors in the celebrations on the 21st, BTB's Airport information staff greeted visitors and locals alike with assorted tokens of Belizean products including Marie Sharp pepper products, Traveller's mini-rum and Belize flag pins.
Arriving passengers were entertained by Mr. Emmet Usher, lead singer from "Metro's Band," who highlighted Belize's musical flavor with his performance of patriotic songs and popular soca song music.
With a total of six international flights arriving that day from three major airlines — American Airlines, TACA and Continental Airlines respectively, visitors were surprised and appreciative of BTB's hospitality which we hope emphasized the generous spirit of the Belizean people and gave them a positive start to an unforgettable Belize vacation.
