Belize Aired on NBC's Today Show – "Ends of the Earth"
NBC Today Show broadcasted its 2008 edition of "Ends of the Earth" as 'Today' anchors were dispatched to the top, bottom, and middle of the globe to explore the extraordinary effects of climate change. In the second edition, amongst many places in the world, our small country filled with a diversity of wildlife, culture, archaeology and adventure, was chosen to be aired live on NBC Today Show.
The two-day adventure started on November 17th as part of the "Green is Universal" Initiative. "Green Week" is a companywide, weeklong programming effort dedicated to raising environmental awareness. Besides Belize, the NBC crew had the opportunity to travel to other unique destinations to examine the changing environment's effect on the world’s most precious resource, water.
Matt Lauer, celebrity anchor of the NBC Today Show and Kerry Saunders, Senior Correspondent, explored two parts of Belize's natural wildlife and natural wonders of our famous Blue Hole and Half Moon Caye. The Ends of the Earth showed the effects of global development and explored the risks to the landscape, the wildlife, and the people who live in various areas of Belize.
Local Belize environmental experts were also interviewed from the Belize Audubon, Belize Zoo, Nature Conservancy, and others were called to share their experiences and technical knowledge.
This is the first live airing for Belize to an international and important source market. The event was broadcasted from the Blue Hole and Lighthouse Reef on November 17th and 18th respectively for three hours each day.
The NBC Television Network broadcasts approximately 5,000 hours of TV programming each year, transmitting to more than 200 affiliated stations across the United States.
