BTB Industry Update - February 2009

Greetings

Director of Tourism If February was the month for love, then Belize was definitely giving valentines in the international travel markets this past month. The BTB and private sector were in attendance at no less than seven consumer and trade shows in England, Brussels and in the United States - the west coast, Midwest and East coast. Feedback from the shows indicate that the awareness of the destination is on the rise and the English speaking population and diversity of Belize's offerings lends to very positive interest among both consumers and the travel trade. Many interested visitors, however, have been impacted by the events in their economies and vacation planning has become more careful with continued requests for all inclusive packages that include a choice of activities.

At home, our local community outreach programs have continued with:

  • Finalists selected in the second round of the primary Social Studies quiz
  • Over 500 submissions received for the Annual Tourism Awards to be held shortly
  • Preparations underway for the Annual Industry presentation to be held in Belize City on April 22nd.

As the world economy starts on the path to recovery it is important that we continue to increase awareness of Belize as an authentic vacation experience that provides great value. We encourage you to ensure the presence of your business in our target markets by:

  • Participating in consumer and trade travel shows
  • Strengthening travel trade partnerships with workable commission structures and net rates
  • Ensuring your marketing information online is accurate and up to date
  • Utilizing the PR opportunities that are sent by bvk on a regular basis
  • Responding quickly and relevantly to visitor requests for information

Please mark your calendars to attend the Annual Industry presentation on April 22nd at the Belize Biltmore Plaza were we will share the past year in review as well present the BTB's marketing and product development plans for 2009-2010. We also remind you to keep us current with what is happening in your business and in your destinations via the "What's New with You" link on BTB's online office at Belizetourism.org and know that you are always welcome to contact the BTB via the contact form, email, telephone or visit us in person at our offices at # 64 Regent St. in Belize City.

With friendship,
Tracy Panton
