Dangriga presents "Discover Destination Dangriga" Plan
On December 4th, the Minister of Tourism accompanied by Directory Tracy Panton spent the day in Dangriga at the invitation of Mayor Frank Mena and the Dangriga Town Council. Over 100 stakeholders greeted Minister Heredia at the new Coconut Palm meeting room at Pelican Beach Resort where a detailed presentation was made on a plan to re-vitalize the Dangriga Town Center and improve access to the many visitor attractions. Attendees included representatives from tourism businesses, local high schools and the Junior college, banks, artists and interested private citizens.
The Discover Dangriga plan includes many infrastructural improvements that the Dangriga Town Council in coordination with the Dangriga branch of the BTIA and many local citizens, are seeking funding for. One purpose of the meeting was to solicit the assistance and commitment of the Minister and the BTB in getting this funding. In the meanwhile, much has already been done by the Dangriga Town Council and the local private sector, including ongoing beach clean-up campaigns, the production of a detailed full-color map of
Dangriga, hosting of numerous cultural events, and the start of road-paving from the Dangriga airstrip to the George Price Blvd. The latter, is the main artery for visitors who arrive via local airlines to stay in Dangriga, Hopkins and other locations within the Stann Creek district.
Minister Heredia expressed commitment to assist wherever possible and encouraged stakeholders to stay involved and work together.
The Minister and Director completed their visit with a tour of the town and project areas with Mayor Mena.
