September Celebrations Committee Launches Activities for Celebrations

The September Celebrations are here once again! Activities in commemoration of the 210^th anniversary of the Battle of St. George's Caye and the 27^th anniversary of Belize's Independence are being coordinated by the September Celebrations Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. The official timeline for the September Celebrations is from August 29^th to September 22^nd and the committee proudly launched the official countrywide calendar and playbill on August 20^th.

This year's theme was selected via a competition open to all Belizeans living at home or abroad. Selected from 147 submissions, Mr. Boisrand Panton submitted, "Belizeans! Learning our Past, Impacting our Present, Embracing our Future."

The Committee also coordinated the Patriotic Song Competition and the Carnival Song Competition open to local artists. A total of 13 and 11 submissions, respectively, were received.

The Belize Tourism Board serves as the Secretariat for this year’s celebrations. Members of the committee include representatives from the following government and non-government entities: Belize City Council, Belize Tourism Board, Ministry of Tourism, the National Institute of Culture and History, St. George's Caye Day Society, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Association of Belizean Artists First, Council of Churches, Belize Police Department, Tourism Police Unit, National Fire Service, Belize Defense Force, Belize Business Bureau, Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Queen of the Bay Committee, Belize Carnival Association, Belize Red Cross Society, Belize Mayors Association, Belize Tourism Industry Association, National Sports Council, Belize Press Office, BNTUCB, National Awards Committee and representatives of the United Democratic Party and the People's United Party.
