BTB Awards Tourism Scholarships for 2008

In its ongoing commitment to the growth and development of young Belizeans, the Belize Tourism Board awarded five scholarships to recipients pursuing tourism degrees at various educational institutions throughout the country of Belize.

Andy Bahadur, a graduate of Sacred Heart Junior College, was the recipient of a full tuition scholarship for a Bachelor's Degree program in Hospitality and Tourism at Galen University.

The Jean Shaw Scholarship is awarded yearly to a young Belizean woman who is desirous of pursuing a tourism career. The recipient of this scholarship is Lizette Aguilar. She has been accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at Galen University

Flavia Tzul, a graduate of San Pedro High School was awarded a scholarship to pursue an Associate degree in Tourism at San Pedro Junior College and, Edgar Oroman of New Hope High School received a scholarship to pursue an Associate degree in Tourism Management at Sacred Heart Junior College.

Completing the group of 2008 scholarship recipients was Ms.Valerie Gilharry who will pursue an Associate degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management at St. John's College of Professional Studies.

With the growing economic importance of the tourism industry in Belize, the training and education of young professionals remains a vital ingredient in the success of tourism related businesses and organizations.
