BTB & Industry Stakeholders Met with Solicitor General’s Office to Discuss Marriage Amendment Legislation

Weddings in Belize In an effort to clarify the concerns and issues raised by the industry regarding the recently amended Marriage Act (special license petition – section 51:01), the Belize Tourism Board and the private sector representatives met with officials from the Solicitor General’s Office on April 7th, 2008. Representing the Solicitor’s General Office were Mr. Aldo Salazar, Registrar at the General Registry and Ms. Iran Dominguez of the Solicitor’s General Office. Key industry partners to include Wedding Planners and Hoteliers who have been directly affected by these issues were present at the meeting which afforded them the opportunity to directly address their specific concerns on the acquisition of a marriage license for their clients wishing to marry in Belize.

Mr. Salazar was able to satisfactorily address the concerns of the private sector representatives and clearly explain what was required of them. In reference to the amendment, what is expected from private sector when submitting divorce decrees is that an original or certified copy be presented complete with a Raised Seal of approval and an original signature from the court that issued the said document.
