Belize Elementary Student places third in the FCCA Poster Competition

Belize had the opportunity to participate in this year's Florida Caribbean Cruise Association's 2009: Foundation for the Caribbean Children's Environmental Poster Competition held by the Member Lines of the FCCA. 

This year, the poster competition sought to promote and stimulate environmental awareness among Caribbean students while effectively educating younger generations on the importance of environmental protection.

The Caribbean Children's Environmental Poster Competition attracted entries from 17 nations.  The poster competition was divided in two categories: a Junior Division for children ages twelve and under and a Senior Division for children ages 13-16 years.  Each student submitted one poster that portrayed environmental awareness.  Posters had to depict at least three (3) ways in which the student's  destination can make a difference in preserving the environment.

Entries were judged on criteria such as creativity, relevance to the theme, content, and quality of the presentation. Belize was proud to be placed in the winner's circle, taking third place.  Josie Lee of Belize Elementary School was the proud-third- place winner from amongst seventeen entries in the Junior Division. As the third place winner in her group, she was awarded a cash scholarship of US$1,000.00 and the school received US$1,000.00 in lieu of art supplies. 

Since its inception in 1996, the competition has been held annually by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association within those countries its member lines frequent.  An essay competition is also held annually by FCCA and is scheduled to take place in June.
