Be One with Tourism in Belize

Belize recognizes that the success of the tourism industry is dependent upon the involvement, excitement, enthusiasm and appreciation of Belizeans in taking care of our visitors.  The Belize Tourism Board as an ongoing program of activities designed to encourage Belizeans to "Be One with Tourism in Belize". These include:

"I Am Belize" Campaign

The "I Am Belize" campaign seeks to sensitize and educate Belizeans on how their individual actions impact the country's image.  The campaign focuses on civic pride, patriotism, and how we as individuals can make a difference.

The "I Am Belize" Campaign is spearheaded by the Belize Tourism Board as a Local Public Awareness Campaign.  A Committee comprised of the BTB, the BTIA, the BHA, and other private sector representatives has been convened to set out the programs for this campaign.   Click here for more.

Tourism Awareness Week

This is an annual endeavor aimed at highlighting the importance of and the continuing developments within the tourism industry in Belize.  This is accomplished through a series of activities and events such as students’ field trips to national parks and protected areas;open days in several destinations; a Social Studies Quiz Competition; Visitor Appreciation Days; familiarization trips for members of the local media; and the Tourism Awards Show.

Field Trips for School Children

These trips to Belize’s national parks and nature reserves cultivate an appreciation for Belize’s natural resources in the future stakeholders of the tourism industry.  Related activities educate students on the benefits of the tourism industry, its contributions to Belize’s economy, and the importance of the natural environment to the tourism product.

Destination Open Days

Targeted at students and the general public, open days showcase tourism service providers in their respective destinations.  Exhibitors include local hotels, tour operators, schools, artisans, dance and music groups, and the Belize Tourism Board.  Open days give all Belizeans an opportunity to share in the industry’s potential and to get more involved in its development.

Primary School Social Studies Quiz Competition

Contestants representing each district participate in an intense competition that tests their knowledge on such topics as history, government, civics, society and culture.

Visitor Appreciation Days

Visitors to Belize’s main ports of entry such as the Philip Goldson International Airport and the Fort Street Tourism Village are welcomed with musical entertainment and given a variety of Belizean made products.

Local Media Tours

Local media tours serve to acquaint the members of the press with newer activities that the private sector partners have to offer.

Belize Tourism Board Relay Triathlon

Carried out in coordination with the Belize National Triathlon Association, the Belize Tourism Board sponsors this sporting event, which involves one member of a team of three swimming for point four miles, running for three miles, and cycling for fifteen miles.  As a variation to traditional triathlons, one participant of every team in the BTB’s Relay triathlon must be a female athlete.
