BTB Awards Tourism Scholarships for 2008

Belize City, Monday, August 18th, 2008

As a part of the Board's commitment to the growth and development of young Belizeans, the Belize Tourism Board is proud to announce this year's scholarship recipients for tourism degree programs at various educational institutions throughout the country of Belize.

Galen University extended to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture one full tuition scholarship per year for the Bachelor's Degree program in Hospitality and Tourism. The recipient of this year's scholarship is 25 year old Andy Bahadur, a graduate of Sacred Heart Junior College.

The Jean Shaw Scholarship is awarded yearly to a young Belizean woman who is desirous of pursing a tourism career. This year's recipient is 20 year old Lizette Aguilar, who has been accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management at Galen University.

Flavia Tzul, a recent graduate of San Pedro High School, was awarded an Associate Degree in Tourism to San Pedro Junior College, while Valerie Gilharry was awarded a scholarship to SJC School of Professional Studies to pursue an Associates Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Edgar Oromán, a recent graduate of New Hope High School was granted a scholarship to pursue his Associates Degree in Tourism Management at Sacred Heart Junior College.

"Tourism is an important economic sector in our country, comments Tourism Minister, Hon. Manuel Heredia, Jr. "Training continues to be an important ingredient for cultivating young tourism professionals. The Ministry of Tourism and the Belize Tourism Board extends sincere congratulations to all scholarship recipients and wish them success in their studies," Minister Heredia went on to say.
